Inclusivity and Reproductive Justice Policy
Learn To Doula Village is committed to inclusivity, equity, cultural humility, and reproductive justice.
Our students, certificate holders, instructors, and community members are expected to provide respectful, ethical, and compassionate support to all families. This includes, but is not limited to, BIPOC families, LGBTQIA+ families, polyamorous families, gender-diverse families, non-traditional families, families of all socioeconomic backgrounds, and families of all spiritual, religious, and cultural traditions.
We recognize that every birth professional brings their own lived experience, beliefs, values, and limitations. Community members are expected to remain aware of their own biases and to avoid accepting clients they cannot support with genuine respect and dignity.
If a community member determines that they are not the right support person for a client or family because of personal, cultural, religious, or ethical conflict, they are expected to step back in a timely, honest, and professional manner. Whenever possible, they should offer referrals or help the family connect with another qualified support person.
An appropriate way to communicate this may be:
“I believe another support person may be a better fit for your needs, and I want to help ensure you receive respectful and affirming care.”
Socioeconomic status shall not be treated as a measure of a family’s worth, dignity, or right to compassionate support.
Learn To Doula Village strives to provide a learning and professional community free from racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, religious discrimination, classism, and other forms of bias, exclusion, or dehumanizing treatment.
Our goal is to help build a doula community where families are seen, respected, and supported with care that honors their humanity, autonomy, culture, and lived experience.
